The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and WestEd invite school districts across Oregon to participate in a complimentary Virtual Learning Session Series facilitated by WestEd. This series is designed for school district teachers, staff, and administration and aims to empower educators with the knowledge and tools needed to integrate opioid prevention lesson plans into school curriculums in compliance with new state legislation.
Virtual Learning Session #1
May 7, 2025, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (PT) Will cover the extensive reach of the opioid epidemic nationally and within Oregon, examining its impact on the state's schools and on Oregon’s youth. Learn about the new compliance regulations and the latest prevention strategies being implemented in school-based settings.
Virtual Learning Session #2
May 14, 2025, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (PT) Will help participants identify the signs and symptoms of opioid misuse and overdoses among students. The session will delve into the impact of the opioid epidemic on students' health, well-being, and academic success. Hear from Oregon school district staff and gain valuable insights directly from Oregon students.
Virtual Learning Session #3
May 21, 2025, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (PT) Will focus on identifying and accessing valuable resources developed by WestEd and the ODE and resources provided statewide by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and other Oregon agencies. Learn how to navigate the opioid overdose prevention dashboard and gain skills in navigating existing local and school-based resources.
Virtual Learning Session #4
May 28, 2025, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (PT) Will feature lesson plans for K-12 covering topics like medicine safety, making safe choices, substance use advertising, media messaging, youth brain development, and navigating difficult conversations. School districts will learn how to implement these new lesson plans.
