Scaling up Within Interdependent and Changing Systems
Real and lasting change does not take place in isolation, rather it happens within and across systems. This has certainly been true with transitions to next generation science instruction. What have we learned about inputs that are essential to successfully moving school, district, and state systems? How do the interactions within and among these systems support (and hinder) change? This session describes why Making Sense of SCIENCE abandoned its original plans for scaling up and what we did instead as a result of what we learned from our district and state partners. Research and documented success stories point to lessons about systems that are relevant for the uncertain future.
